How To Outsmart Your Boss Upvc Replacement Door Handles
UPVC Replacement Door Handles
Over time the handles on your doors will wear down and require replacement. It is essential to match the dimensions of the handles that were previously used when replacing them.
The top screw position, the lever and the keyhole dimensions are the three measurements you need to determine. Refer to the size guide for help with this.
Inline Lever/Lever
A lever/lever handle is a modern door handle designed to suit new or replacement doors. This kind of handle is available in many designs and finishes. A variety of manufacturers provide this handle including Avocet, ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.
Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle
The door handles of uPVC/Composite are made of robust materials and are suitable for multi-point lock doors that require a strong design. The handles are inline and they utilize the same screws and spindle to secure them. They can be easily installed on new or existing uPVC/Composite door.

The spring lever design allows the handle to be positioned and angled to provide a comfortable grip and is suitable for all users. The handle has been endurance tested to 200,000 cycles, this will ensure the quality of the finish and performance of the handle over time. The sprung lever is adjustable to fit a broad range of locks. This is particularly useful for narrower door frames in which the cylinder is further back. A shorter lever is an ideal choice for doors that have latches that can be opened by a thumb turn located on the inside.
Lever Pad
The lever pad upvc handle is distinct from the lever handles that are used on the majority of doors. These handles are operated by a single spindle or by two spindles, either inline or offset. They are typically employed on UPVC double-glazed doors and come in many variations & styles.
The handles have been tested to the minimum of 200 000 cycles and are available in a variety of finishes including White and Silver, as well as Chrome & Gold. The finish is compliant with BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, thereby giving the handle a high degree of durability and performance for the intended use.
All UPVC handle lever pads include a spindle and screws, and can be fitted on the uPVC door. The 211mm backplate fixation centres permit a larger handle, which is typically an advantage when replacing an old or faulty multi-point door lock mechanism. These handle levers are also spring-loaded, thereby solving the issue of handles that slide from their horizontal position when they are not in use.
It is important to match up the PZ dimensions for both the multipoint lock as well as the uPVC doors when choosing the replacement UPVC spindle and handle. This measurement is also called 'handle centre or cylinder centre'. It is important to match the right handles.
Once you have the proper PZ size you will then need to ensure that the handle lever pads and push pads are in a suitable shape to fit the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant handles that you need for your doors. They are typically round or square with an internal lever, and an external push pad.
The majority of UPVC lever pads we offer are sprung, which means that they return to their horizontal position when not being used, instead of hanging out and possibly sticking in the frame. This helps prevent the draughts and cold air from entering a home. The majority of UPVC lever pad style handles are available in left and right handed models, allowing them to be put on either side of doors.
Euro Cylinder
Cylinder locks can be found on uPVC and other kinds of doors. They operate by using a key to unlock a cylinder case that is then revealed with pins that can be aligned to those in the lock body and permitting them to turn a revolving cam, thus opening the door. Euro cylinders can be equipped with up to six pins, with external and internal doors usually requiring different levels of security.
The choice of the correct cylinder is vitally important; this depends on the way your doors and handles are used. For instance, exterior doors should be fitted with a more secure cylinder while doors inside can be secured with an ordinary cylinder. In addition, some cylinders are available with extra features which can enhance security further, such as anti-drill and anti-bump characteristics.
A euro cylinder must be measured correctly to ensure that it is the right size for your door. The cylinder should be measured from the central fixing screw hole to the end of the cylinder, including the thumb turn if you have one. It is best to do this with the lock in place however in the event that this is not feasible, you can take it off and remove it to measure. A cylinder that is protruding beyond the handle and escutcheon might be vulnerable to attacks such as lock snapping, so it is important to make sure it's not too long.
The design of many modern cylinders includes anti-drilling and bump resistance features. They are designed to decrease attack chances by forcing the cylinders to turn in a different direction. This can help deflect the attack, and ensure your door is secure.
There are also cylinders made to resist snapping. This is a common attack on cylinders. A specially designed tool is used to break the break line of the lock, and then the front of cylinder is snapped off. This is a much faster and more convenient method of gaining access than a multipoint locking system. It also leaves less evidence of the break-in which can make it difficult to prove insurance claims.
Spring Cassette
This spring cassette sits in the base of the door handle backplate, supplying a spring-loaded solution that returns your multipoint lock handles to their normal position after use. The handles were previously equipped with no spring and would droop when the locking mechanism was disconnected. This simple part is the most effective way to address this issue. It also stops your door from becoming stuck in either the closed or open position, as they are difficult to close manually.
These spring cassettes are specially made for use with multipoint locks that are sprung They will not work with unsprung multipoint handles and you will need to have a custom hole cut into the backplate to allow them to fit (please see image for technical diagram). They are a replacement for damaged or missing cassettes inside the backplates of door handles of numerous brands of uPVC doors. They feature a square cut-out that allows for an 8mm spindle to be used and they are supplied individually.
